How To: Plan A Party

Fun Fact. I love planning party’s and events.

It brings me pure excitement.

Most recently someone asked me what my favorite part of planning events and I was stuck for a little bit. I really do love everything about it, even the hiccups.

I’ve been working in this field professionally for some time and I’ve come up with a little worksheet for each event or party I plan.

Disclaimer: I use this for larger parties. You can totally use it for smaller parties if you want too!

Budget – Be realistic, how much are you willing to spend on EVERYTHING (food, beverages, space rental, party favors etc.) This ensures that you don’t over spend and purchase only what you need for the festivities.

Location & Date – Do this early, especially if you need to rent out a space. The earlier the better! Also consult with some of the party goers to make sure the date works.

Theme – This is very important! This ties in the the decor and sometimes the type of food and beverage you are going to serve. For example, if your party is Luau themed, you probably don’t want to serve your guests greek food or tacos? You know?

Decor – This also goes with the theme. I love hitting up my local party store for decor but to be honest my favorite thing is to make decorations myself. Be realistic, and make sure it’s doable! I don’t know how many times I believed that I could make something on my own and it turned out to be a hot mess. So buy what you need and only make what you’re comfortable with. Pinterest is my BEST friend. When I’m in the early stages of planning I make a Pinterest board dedicated to decor.

Food & Drink – This another very important step especially if you decide to cater, you should first talk to potential caters to make sure your party is something they’ll be able to do. When you get the okay, place your food order! Now if your caterer provides beverages I always suggest taking it, it’s less work for you! But…if they don’t offer it no worries! I found the coolest little cheat sheet for beverages (and food). If you decide to make food yourself, plan it out in advance so you’re not running around the day of.

Guest list – Make this in advance so you know how much food, drink and party favors to order.

Party Favors – You don’t need to have party favors if you don’t want to. I always like to give people a little something to remember the event. For my aunt birthday we had candy filled wine glasses (from etsy) and it was a huge hit!

Social Media Stuff – Create a hashtag! They’re easy to come up with and it’s a great way to keep track of photos of your party as well! Although hashtags are awesome Snapchat geofilters are my favorite for parties! They’re customizable, inexpensive and everyone loves them!

I hope you found this post helpful!

Gift Guide: For Him

Cover photo for the holiday gift guide: for him. It's an image of an apple, pinecones and a red latte with white hearts latte art
The air is kinda crisp (I say kinda because it was a solid 50-something degrees yesterday). Malls are filled to the brim, and ABC Family (I refuse to call it Freeform) has a certain theme going. It’s the Holiday’s!

As promised, I have created a holiday gift guide for the men in your life. There are a variety of items that can be used as stocking stuffers, under the tree presents and secret santa; there’s clothing, accessories and tech items! Gift Guide: For Her

Gift Guide Cover Photo. An image of a nicely wrapped present with polka dotted wrapping paper and a brown label on top.

That means it’s the Holiday’s! It’s easily my favorite time of the year. Spending time with my family, eating a lot of holiday themed food, it really doesn’t get any better than that. Although the holidays is a very joyous occasion, there can be some added stress especially in the gift-giving department. I’ve been known to fly a little too close to the cuckoo’s nest searching for the perfect gift for friends and family. If you have difficulties finding gifts for loved one’s please stay tuned for this two-part gift giving post. This post is focusing on a gift guide for the ladies in your life.

What’s In My Bag: Back to School Edition

Back to school season is in full swing and to be quite honest I’m feeling a little nostalgic. My favorite thing back in the day (one year ago), was back to school shopping. Fresh, clean notebooks, a brand spankin new agenda and the brightest pens you can find because how else was I going to keep my notes interesting. Those were the days. I was (and still am) that girl who had everything in her bag…snacks, endless pens, hand sanitizer, 2 phone chargers, and on occasion an external hard drive. I played no games. A fear of mine is being unprepared, so I was ALWAYS prepared. In the spirit of school being back in session, I thought I’d share what I always kept in my bag.

Keepin’ Cozy

Cozy fall items

Do you feel it? The air is crisper, there’s leaves everywhere and everything is pumpkin flavored. Fall is officially upon us, finally. I’ve been waiting for this moment for what feels like forever. Don’t get me wrong I love a little warmth, but I don’t like being sweaty all the time. Hooray for being able to get from point A to point B without being sweaty! Remember my sweaty rant?

I’m a sucker for pretty leaves, cold breeze and cozy days at home. I LIVE for cozy days at home, they’re good for the soul and your sanity.

Here’s how I’m keepin’ cozy this fall.

Collage of Dahlia's favorite cozy fall things

Throw| Mug| Scarf|

Throw| I’m a huge fan of snuggling up on the couch with the softest throw in the world. Throws are my weakness.

Blanket Scarf| I am in love with blanket scarfs. It makes it acceptable for me to walk out of my house wearing a huge blanket while still looking cute #fashion

Mug| For the ridiculous amount of hot beverages I consume. I love drinking out of pretty things.

Breakfast in Bed| One of my favorite things to do. I whip up a super easy brekkie, put it on a cute tray and enjoy it from the comfort of my bed with Netflix, obviously.

Journaling| Ahhh journaling, it does wonders for my busy brain. It’s nice to de-stress on paper.

Have a rad Monday babes!

Start today with a grateful heart

Let me know how you’re keepin’ cozy this fall.

xoxo
